In Cait’s Corner: A Look Behind The Scenes

I wanted a blog-type-of-thing, circa 2015, that I could present to you - that isn’t the millisecond experience of Instagram or Facebook - where I can give you a bit more detail.

To stretch my words and thoughts .. and attention span. To peel back some of the layers. Layers of what?

Head spas. Hair. Health. Well being. Consciousness. Whimsy. And maybe some personal bits and bobbles - like this particular entry.

Time is of high value and yet, so is getting to know one another beyond the seven second reel.

And as most humans, I too am practicing finding the balance, the veryyyyy delicate dance, between time and connection. Time and softness. Time and slowness.

In a world that is go-go-go.

That in and of itself is a gift.

Current Halo Happenings

Re-working the service menu. Since opening Halo in October of 2025, I have consistently heard, “I wasn’t sure which service to choose.” And from the beginning, I’ve offered four different head spas for you to choose from. They are: The Harmonic (relaxation focused), The Repair, The Hydrate, and The Detox.

And hindsight is always 20/20, it was as if I was asking you to analyze your own scalp and hair before arriving. I felt I was remedying this by assuring you that we could change or select the best option for you (if your eye-of-the-beholder selection wasn’t the best choice) during your consultation, but honestly, this all lacks clarity.

And the truth is, the experience has always been premium, comprehensive, and fully customized behind the scenes.

Rather than using a single product line for every guest, I work from a professional system of scalp and hair care products that allows me to personalize each treatment based on your unique scalp condition, hair needs, and overall goals.

These formulas are made with certified organic ingredients, are pH balanced, free from synthetic fragrances and petroleum-based ingredients, and are not sold on Amazon or found in typical retail stores.

When I was a specialized hair colorist, I had a similar system of working product. I customized each hair color; rather than grabbing the Cherry Cola from a box and applying it to your hair, I had 25 ingredients/colors at my disposal and I created the Cherry Cola.

The real difference isn’t what products or ‘type’ of treatment you choose, it’s how much time you want, and the intention of the experience.

Now that I am going-on 9 months of owning and operating at Halo, I see this clearly.

And before we celebrate the big O-N-E year in October, it’s foundational to have my service offerings solid. A business is one big experiment, and though there have been some pesky brain narratives of “changing it now will confuse everyone”, I think anytime a business can bring more clarity to what we do and offer, it’s always a “success”.

As of right now I’m leaning towards: time-led head spas (40, 60, 90 minutes) and then a dry, hair play option.

Alongside seasonal options and other luxury, wellness upgrades.

Currently you’ll notice: site to schedule is still easily accessible, so continue to schedule, and know that all the details will be fully updated over the next couple of days.

ASMR Hair Play. Not sure if this is what the offering will be called but the service will replace the Mini Waterless Headspa, which has only ever been booked twice in the time I’ve been operating.

One person booked it as a way to see if they might like a longer service time with me, as they had some less-than-ideal experiences elsewhere. They have been back, twice, for headspas with water. And the other guest, as a way to receive more head massage in-between her full head spa sessions.

But, the concept of a dry head spa has always excited me - could be since the days of having my head checked for lice as a young student - though really I attribute it to the ASMR hair play videos that found me pre-Covid. Since finding videos of people performing hair play services, person to person rather than on a mannequin, I have wanted to establish a dry, hair and scalp offering.

ASMR isn’t the focus rather a natural, organic part of your quiet, relaxing hair play. I don’t necessarily tap and click more so whispers and sounds of brushes on hair.

Current Personal Joys

Reading Era. I don’t know what has taken over me but I’ve read (listened to) more books in the last two weeks than I have in all of 2026. My TBR list is (life)loooong and all over the place. As a bibliophile I love all sorts of genres and styles of books, so, only lightly judge the snapshot of my choices. I removed Horrorstor from the list when proofreading this but am adding it back right here, right now. It was quite grusome but “good”. Much like a hot sauce that is hot, but not so hot you can’t taste the flavors. But, approach with caution.

Reminder, listening to books counts as reading and as a busy mom and entrepreneur, listening to books definitely makes reading accessible right now. Here’s a few from my recent reads:

Downeast: Five Maine Girls and the Unseen Story of Rural America

We Used To Live Here

Bitten: The Secret History of Lyme Disease and Biological Weapons (I live with Lyme and this one hit close to home)

My plants. I rent an apartment and have a small backyard which I lovingly call my Secret Garden. It’s really not as robust or flower-full as it may sound but it invokes that feeling, for me. Mechanical sounds are replaced by organic sounds and the view is of the Maine forest. Ferned, lush, and a bit swampy.

Anyhow, I am growing vegetables and herbs in containers this year near the tree-line (and a few flowers) and after all the rain, everything is looking full of life.

I’ve been experimenting with drying the herbs and making herb teas, which I’d like to start incorporating during your head spa service.

Rosemary as an example, is an incredible herb for the scalp and hair. Imagine having sun-dried rosemary brewed, warmed and then poured, gently, over the head. In the Japanese Head Spa tradition, bathing the hair with tea is part of the ceremony.

Schedule Options

I have made myself available for 5pm and 5:30 pm head spas throughout the summer on Monday and Wednesday’s, beginning now. And I will be taking Thursday’s off beginning in the month of August.

Well, that sums up this edition of In Cait’s Corner! Message me if you have any thoughts or follow up wonderings. Or just to let me know you read this.
