How Halo Headspa Got Its Name

Naming my head spa was almost as much fun as formulating the experience itself.

And the naming took place long before the fountains were flowing.

I knew I wanted the name to feel beautiful and meaningful and easy to remember .. and I will admit .. I have a soft spot for a good alliteration.

Before my 2020 Covid closing, my salon suite was called Hair Haven, so there’s something especially satisfying about Halo Headspa carrying that similar rhythm.

But the name Halo has a few layers to it, and that’s what really made it feel like the most natural choice.

First, there’s the very literal connection to the head spa experience.

The water fountain element used during the treatment (the gold half circle that is attached to the basin) is called a halo. There’s something mesmerizing about the streaming water gently circulating around the head and I love that the name comes directly from a practical part of the experience.

Then there’s the most obvious halo of all: our hair.

Hair has been called a person’s crown, and a halo feels like a natural extension of that idea.

Our hair frames our face, and not only expresses something about who we are, hair can be such an important part of how we see ourselves.

I love the thought of treating someone’s crown with care; not just making it look healthy, but creating an experience that feels restorative from the scalp, inward.

And then there’s the more intangible meaning of halo. The word can make us think of ethereal, a halo of light around the head, softness, calm and maybe even something quietly special surrounding a person.

I’m drawn to that feeling without wanting to attach it to any particular religion or belief system.

To me, it’s all a beautiful metaphor for the kind of experience I want Halo Headspa to offer you; that is a little space to slow down, breathe, receive and leave feeling lighter.

So, Halo Headspa became the name.

A little alliteration.
A little technical truth.
A little poetry.
And a whole lot of intention.

It felt like the perfect name for something centered around the head, the halo and the feeling of being enveloped with care.
